Food Runner job description

REPORTS TO: Restaurant Manager

SUMMARY: Primary responsibilities include acting as the liaison between the Back of the House & Front of House to ensure timely/accurate delivery of all menu items.


  • Must be at least 18 years or older
  • Food & Beverage experience is not required
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time & repetitive hand/wrist motions
  • Ability to lift heavy objects above 50lbs
  • Work with hot, cold, & hazardous chemicals/equipment


  • Understanding of the full Menu including the Beverage Menu
  • Practices Food & Alcohol Safety, in accordance to the VA Health Department & Virginia ABC
  • Upholds Sanitary & Cleanliness practices for food handling & cleanliness throughout the restaurant


  • Maintains a neat & clean appearance
  • Possesses a strong work ethic
  • Practices honesty & integrity at all times
  • Communication with team members, other departments, & leadership
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once
  • Respects & maintains a good working relationship with other team members, departments, & leaders
  • Stays productive at all times throughout the shift

  • Actively communicates with Back of House (BOH-kitchen) & Front of House (FOH-servers) to ensure timely & accurate delivery of all food items
  • Openly communicates any issues that arise to the appropriate areas to resolve issues
  • Develops/maintains strong relationship between both departments
  • Alleviates pressures of both departments by acting as the liason
  • Takes direction from and works closely with expeditor when necessary
  • Anticipates customers’ needs
  • Ability to serve difficult customers
  • Desires to provide an exceptional dining experience
